About My Book

Stepping into the Light: You’re a Christian, what now? is a great primer for the new adult Christian, as well as a devotional and inspiring Christian living guidebook.

Written by Diane L. Harris, the daughter of a South Bronx born Jew and a Jamaican-American ex-Episcopalian Jewish convert, Stepping into the Light is the fearless testimony of a former atheist who admits that while Christian salvation erases the threat of eternal damnation, becoming a Christian is not a magical pill for the ills of life on earth.

Combining curiosity, transparency, a gift for simplifying erudition and a palpable joy, Minister Diane explores the questions for God that inundated her as a “baby believer.”

With clarity and wielding a humble sense of humor, this woman of God leads the way to a down-to-earth relationship with a loving Messiah by answering such important questions as: What’s the meaning of salvation? Who do I become when I’m born again? Do I need to know about spiritual warfare? How is the Old Testament relevant to me as a Christian? What does the New Testament teach? What promises does God have for me? Can I contribute to the kingdom of God?

If you are a Christian, “baby believer” or not, who is asking yourself, “what now?” this book is written for you.

Seven Things I Wish Were in the Bible

Of course the Bible is complete and contains everything we need to know, all the most important spiritual data. But sometimes my enquiring mind wonders about the details anyway. Here just seven more things I wish were revealed in the Good Book:

  1. A description of Joseph and Mary's wedding day (preferably with pictures)
  2. The guest list for Jesus' bar mitzvah
  3. Favorite board games of the two million Israelites who were stuck in the desert for 40 years -- what else did they have to do? (y'know, in between grumbling, wallowing in fear, and creating golden calves)
  4. The story of Deborah's ascent to leader of Israel
  5. How Pharaoh's daughter explained baby Moses to daddy; or was it common for royalty to bring home stray children?
  6. How Rahab supported herself after joining the Israelites
  7. And finally, what exactly was an ephod?

What 7 things do you wish were in the Bible?

Great post, Diane. Here are some of the things I've wondered about. What was Jesus like as a child? Did he have a lot of friends? Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is unforgiveable. What if I've done this without knowing?

Great questions, Sharon. So many people worry about that last one, judging by the questions I get from people I know. I always tell people that if you are worried about it you haven't done it. The unforgiveable sin is to not care about the truth you know the Holy Spirit has revealed to you; to choose to say "I KNOW Jesus is Lord and I will not bow."

I always wanted to know if Paul´s nose was crooked, and how short was he.
Was King David a blonde?

Great questions!
